Do the formulas with instructions give enough of an involvement to engage the students and to provide them enough experience to develop an understanding? I'm a constructivist and have been searching for ways to provide the students with insight.

An example of an attempt to accomplish this is: Estimation of Slope and Intercept at http://www.cals.ncsu.edu/gn/ex/reg.html
While this Learning Object (via simulation) was written with a college intro statistics course in mind - the formulas are the same as presented for this fifth grade class.

I'm wondering about teachers' experiences in teaching these important concepts via computational formulas, and asking for teachers' opinions on whether a Learning Object such as this would help in learning.

P.S. You have permission to use this Learning Object for all public and non-profit school teaching
